Staff Data Scientist – Decision Sciences  

The Staff Data Scientist for Decision Sciences will play a critical role to develop advanced statistical models and prescriptive analytics to uncover the why behind member behaviors while measuring and forecasting the outcomes from total retail industry lens to inform data-driven executive decisions. You will have direct visibility with exec leadership team and will drive our strategic initiatives to support the rapid growth of our online and omni-channel businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Research, create and implement advanced statistical models and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms on fast-moving structured and unstructured data to support decision making

  • Lead projects and take ownership of whole lifecycle of projects. Including prototype model and data process code, communicate with cross-functional teams to align progress and collaborate on integrations.

  • Work independently on productionize solutions (such as in the form of model); maintain and continuously improve the solutions; address production issues.

  • Have a very strong product mindset and proactively ideate and design relevant data products

  • Design and execute experiments to achieve business objectives and drive optimization  

  • Partner with tech Engineers to define data and tracking requirements

  • Translate data insights into actions and recommendations and self-serve products

  • Guide and mentor junior data scientist team members on modeling process and algorithm

Minimum Qualification

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Information Technology or related analytical discipline and 2+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience - OR - Bachelors Degree in above and 4+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience.

  • Proven advanced modeling experience in leading data-driven projects from definition to execution, driving and influencing project roadmaps

  • Experience in experimental test design, machine learning and optimization

  • Experience in building propensity, uplift and personalization models

  • Experience with at least one scripting language (Python/R)

  • Deep expertise in writing and debugging complex SQL queries

  • Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills

You’ll Sweep Us Off Our Feet If

  • You have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Information Technology, Operations Research or a related computational science field and 1+ years of post-graduate relevant work experience

  • You have strong production level modeling experience with one programming language from end-to-end

  • You have experience with building incremental response models and personalization models using ML

  • You have experience with full lifecycle of a real-world modeling project in a lead role from inception, problem definition, solution design to implementation, production deployment, maintenance and refactor

  • You have more than 2 years of experience in retail industry or macro-economic related functions

  • You have experience on leveraging visualization to build compelling stories based on context to integrate multiple pieces of information into cohesive insight
