Walmart Conversational Commerce is a new conversational commerce shopping service that is focused on empowering our time-sensitive busy Walmart families to express their needs in any way and any moment so that they can focus on the things that matter. We believe that we will create a differentiated customer experience for Walmart customers, and our goal is to deeply enhance the retail relationship and optimize it for the digital world. We are building a hard-working passionate team to join us as we have fun delighting customers, changing the retail landscape, and driving technical innovation. 

As a member of the Conversational Commerce team, you will help us bring in the data and insights that allow us to champion for the customer at every step of their product journey. We are just getting started and a ton of work will need to be done, there will be random tasks, experimentation will be expected, and a can-do attitude is a must. You will perform under pressure, thrive in ambiguity, and have a passion delivering useful, usable, and scalable experiences. This role will report into the Senior Data Analytics Manager.  

About the Role: 

Data Engineering: Work with our data engineering teams to pull and extract interesting and meaningful data from a wide variety of internal data sources

Data Analytics: Provide guidance to Product Managers and Business Analysts on how to best utilize and transform the data to become insightful and actionable

Data Science: Utilize a wide variety and resources and techniques to create forecasting to help us predict customer behavior and engagement  

Data Evangelism: Work with our business leadership to help them understand the value of data and communicate to our product managers about how to interpret trends and data.

What you’ll do: 

  • Serve as the data liaison between Conversational Commerce and the greater Walmart data ecosystem. You’ll identify the key data lakes and connections that will give the team access to the data they need for amazing actionable insights. 

  • Help develop the strategy for our data analytics and business intelligence infrastructure. You’ll work with the team to create a robust self-service data ecosystem also diving into the numbers to understand a big picture view of our data.

  • Help develop and create production level forecasting and prediction models to move that can scale alongside the size of our customer base


What you should have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or a related technical field

  • 3+ years experience in an analytics engineering, business intelligence, or technical data analytics role

  • 3+ years experience Python/R

  • SQL and ETL optimization techniques, especially within cloud-based data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, and/or Redshift

  • Command line experience and familiarity with version control software (Git)

  • Experience with data pipeline management technologies with dependency checking, such as Airflow, as well as schema design and dimensional data modeling

  • Ability to leverage tools, business intuition, and attention to detail for data validation and QA

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly when explaining technical or complex matters to non-technical leaders and teammates

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or a related technical field

  • Experience with data ingestion tools (such as Fivetran, Stitch, Alooma, or Matillion)

  • Experience w/ Data Streaming tech (such as Kafka, Beam, Spark etc….)
