Implements financial improvements by executing the Transportation financial, budget, and capital expenditure plans for the region; analyzing the monthly and annual profit and loss (P&L) results for the region; supporting plans aimed at reducing overall transportation costs and controlling expenses as a percentage of sales; implementing third party vendor strategies in support of favorable freight rates; and conducting analysis for multiple offices to assist in development of strategies designed to drive down total cost structure.
Conducts equipment capacity planning and dedicated carrier management by staffing and sourcing dedicated needs for key peak season and normal shortfall in transportation capacity; creating tactical and long term forecasting; acting as a liaison between supported private fleet offices and supporting third-party carriers; addressing company concerns with supporting third-party corporate offices and general managers; determining appropriate workload for third-party transportation; ensuring carrier meets established level of service guidelines; providing feedback for carrier performance as it relates to appropriate metrics; executing tactical plans in support of the regional vision; verifying refrigerated and dry trailer equipment to support outbound and inbound workload; coordinating least cost method of moving company owned assets; and sourcing third party trailing assets.
Supports vendor backhaul business by conducting analysis of profitable lanes of freight for the region (for example, empty mile percent, excess miles, total cost per mile, freight payment rates); conducting quarterly vendor and supplier summits to generate revenue and maintain vendor relationships; conducting bill of lading audits to generate leads on new backhaul business; acting as a liaison with regional staff, home office teams (for example, Strategy, Finance, Maintenance, Safety, Corporate Traffic), and supported store, club, or field logistics operations to maintain relationships to gather and resolve concerns; and conducting conference calls or onsite visits with vendors to resolve issues (for example, scheduling, yard procedures, equipment damage).
Supports regional communication by providing daily updates and tactical operations feedback for the team; ensuring consistent team communications through regional meetings, local, regional, and divisional grassroots meetings, conference calls, newsletters, business updates, and policy implementation; developing and updating policies and procedures; and representing the company to outside organizations (for example, third party carriers, vendors, trade associations).
Directs transportation operations by ensuring key operational metrics are achieved (for example, miles per tractor, empty mile percents, backhaul revenue gains); creating audit tools to ensure compliance with Walmart's policies, federal, state, and local laws, and Department of Transportation regulations; guiding the regional transportation team through emergency and disaster relief operations; coordinating with emergency operation center and regional operation center to set priorities for recovery efforts; and formulating contingencies when one or more distribution points are unable to function for a sustained period of time.
Removes barriers confronting field transportation teams by meeting with transportation office associates, vendors, and third party carriers to solicit input on challenges; acting as a field team point of contact for assistance requests that cannot be resolved at the local office, distribution center (DC) level, store level, and club level; utilizing policies, resources, and home office support teams to find solutions to opportunities confronting field teams; determining action plans and monitoring results; and coordinating regional steering committees for groups (for example, drivers, store ambassadors, customer service managers) to aid in problem identification and resolution.
