Senior Engineering Manager 1 – Software Engineering

Walmart’s Digital Retail Services (DRS) group is responsible for enabling omni-services experience for customers that want to engage with us online or in-stores for custom services focusing on many aspects of their day-to-day life. Walmart is investing in transforming these spaces with latest technology and we are looking for talented individuals who can use their engineering and leadership skills to help our teams solve complex problems. 

We are seeking a Senior Manager, who will lead a team of engineers to build the next generation Wireless shopping experience for our Associates & Customers. We need someone with mobile application development experience. You will be part of the application development team in leading software implementation and design, solving, and reviewing products that enable self-service, mobile-first, bleeding edge technology that allows our associates to become faster and more efficient as they work with our customers.

What you'll do... 

  • Lead the work of other small groups of six to ten engineers in software development and design, identifying short- and long- term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes. 
  • Provides support to the business for new and existing systems by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility); researching and identifying needed solutions; determining implementation designs; providing guidance regarding implications of new and enhanced systems; and directing users to appropriate contacts for issues outside of own domain. 
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality); performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engaging support teams when needed; developing solutions; driving the development of an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; and completing online documentation. 
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales. 
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities. 

What you'll bring... 

  • Experience leading teams that have built web & mobile user applications preferably using one or more of React JS, React Native, JavaScript, ES6, Typescript. 
  • Experience building, leading, and retaining high-performance cross-functional global engineering teams. 
  • Experience working with Product, Business & UX Design teams to deliver solutions. 
  • Strong people and communication skills to connect authentically with internal stakeholders, and external partners 
  • Ability to multitask between several different requirements and features concurrently 
  • Familiarity with Restful microservices, JSON, API best practices. 
  • Experience with CICD, Continuous Delivery & Deployment. 
  • Experience using Agile development methods and scaling Agile across multiple teams. 
  • Ability to lead teams with a relentless focus on testing best practices & test automation. 
  • A constant desire to improve, learn more and take things to the next level and a passion for adopting the latest industry best practices. 

Nice to Have 

  • Hands-on previous experience with React JS and/or React Native. 
  • Experience with Cloud technologies (Azure preferred) & Kubernetes. 
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana and UI Analytics tools.
