Associate Director, Strategy and Planning – Financial & Retail Services Marketing

Our Mission in Walmart Financial and Retail Services Category Marketing is to (1) Enable Customers with the financial tools to obtain their needs and wants regardless of their financial condition Everyday and (2) Extend convenience and value to their purchases with our Retail Services in support of helping our customers Save Money and Live Better.

As the Associate Director you will lead the development of omni marketing strategy, planning and execution for the Financial & Retail Services. You will partner with the retail and financial services business teams to identify and drive customer priorities, partner with cross-functional marketing teams to bring programs to life, and supplier partner marketing teams to allocate and optimize marketing budgets.  You will oversee campaigns and messaging leveraging Walmart’s paid and owned ecosystem and partner with Suppliers to bring to life outside our ecosystem. 

We are looking for a highly motivated, analytical, passionate problem solver, creative, and strategic marketer who has a proven track record in driving revenue growth and is able to jump in and make an immediate impact.

  • Ability to influence and collaborate with supplier partner teams and cross-functional partners to provide bring activations to life that solve for key customer priorities

  • Drive priority development and seasonal Services marketing calendar, and ensure marketing activations support business priorities and are integrated into category and/or seasonal marketing activity where needed

  • Identify areas of opportunity to acquire new customers and drive perception change for retail services and financial services, including the products/services within each area

  • Develop programs to increase repeat and retention rates for existing Service and Category shoppers

  • Collaborate with the Customer Science team to better understand customer journey to identify best intersection points to increase relevance of Services offers

  • Partner with internal and external creative to drive a consistent, integrated and elevated look and feel for Financial & Retail Services across all channels and develop breakthrough creative assets

  • Partner with seasonal and cross category teams to ensure successful representation and integration of stories and priorities

  • Act as ambassador for Services marketing across multiple cross-functional teams and efforts

  • Advocate for customer needs and wants across all marketing activities

  • Identify and outline best suited design targets for all marketing efforts


  • 8-10 years in marketing strategy and planning

  • 5+ years of marketing execution

  • 2+ years in financial/retail services marketing

  • Knowledge of marketing disciplines: acquisition, retention, brand, media, creative, content, product marketing and partnerships

  • Proven leadership and people development skills, as well as experience working and influencing cross functionally

  • Proven ability to work with data to understand and analyze performance, optimize plans, make quick decisions, produce & apply insights and measure impact to the business

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a high attention to detail

  • Sharp creative eye, experience testing and learning messaging and creative.

  • Risk-taker, comfortable in fast-paced environment; go-getter, self-motivated, capable of managing multiple projects, priorities

  • Knowledge of and interest in ecommerce customer behavior and retail

  • BA/BS degree with strong academic record. MBA preferred

You have great business sense and know when to trust your instincts.  You champion to deliver solutions for all customers based on the principles of inclusion.

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field and 3 years' experience in marketing or related field OR 7 years'
experience in marketing or related field.
