What you'll do at

Oversees multiple distribution centers within a region to ensure quality, freshness, and food safety of grocery products as they flow from suppliers through distribution centers to stores and clubs by implementing and monitoring quality control policies and procedures; teaching quality inspection practices to provide consistency of execution; calibrating inspection methodology with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) offices; and communicating acceptance and rejection performance to suppliers. Manages exceptions (for example, fruit availability resulting from adverse weather, mechanical failures, room capacity) within the Walmart fruit ripening program for Walmart and Sam's Club business units across multiple distribution centers by identifying alternate sources for bananas, avocados, and pears; providing direction to suppliers, Buyers, replenishment, transportation, and distribution managers on necessary action steps for Walmart and Sam's Club; and recommending additional rooms for ripening room expansions. Trains and develops Quality Control associates by delivering training programs through multiple media (for example, participating in 'Live' broadcasts via Walmart Logistics University); observing and educating Quality Control associates; developing educational materials for quality control training programs on the Quality Control homepage site on the Walmart intranet; and arranging and hosting field trips to perishable suppliers for educational and developmental purposes. Prepares regional overhead budget by calculating wage expenses for management and hourly associates; estimating travel expenses for Quality Control associates; estimating training, supplies, and other line item expenses; submitting proposed budget to director for approval; and comparing forecasted budget to actual spending to identify discrepancies. Provides recommendations to improve the quality of perishable products by observing suppliers' facilities and growing areas to discuss quality opportunities; recommending new standards for quality; communicating supplier rejection rates to Merchandising divisions; and instructing distribution center and transportation associates on cold chain protocol. Oversees flow of communication on product quality program for Walmart and Sam's Club business units across multiple distribution centers within region by informing Replenishment and suppliers of inbound and in-house product quality; determining and communicating inbound product rejections to suppliers, Replenishment, and other Walmart business units (for example, Transportation, Global Procurement team, Accounting); providing guidance on correspondence reports (for example, sell-by dates, aged inventory issues) on fresh produce, floral, and meat; and resolving disputes with suppliers and transportation carriers.
