As the world’s largest retailer, we’re reimagining the way we empower our merchants—and Wally, our AI-powered assistant, is at the heart of that transformation. As the Director, Technical Program Management for Wally, you'll drive the quality and impact of our next-gen LLM (Large Language Model) applications, shaping how our merchants use AI to move faster, work smarter, and focus on what matters most. You’ll lead a high-impact team responsible for defining quality and evaluation standards, managing hallucination risk, and translating GenAI research into execution priorities—all while guiding the evolution of one of Walmart’s most ambitious digital tools.
What you'll do...
What You'll Do:

Manage hallucination risk – Define operating thresholds and fallback logic to ensure factual accuracy, particularly in high-stakes business contexts
Translate research into roadmap – Turn academic insights and frontier model capabilities into clear, merchant-focused development goals
Enable your team – Grow a tight-knit group of data scientists and TPMs to deliver trustworthy, useful, and scalable GenAI-powered experiences
Drive cross-functional delivery – Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, and Merchant leadership to prioritize, execute, and evolve Wally’s roadmap
Communicate with influence – Articulate tradeoffs, surfacing impact risks, and driving alignment across technical and executive audiences
What You'll Bring:
9+ years experience in technical program management, AI/ML product management, or related fields
Experience leading applied research teams or model evaluation workstreams
Familiarity with LLM architectures, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation systems
Experience with structured QA frameworks, semantic query scoring, or hallucination prevention techniques
Background in retail tech, data science, or high-scale AI systems preferred
Previous experience building or scaling LLM QA systems in production, ideally in customer-facing or internal agent contexts
A deep intuition around how GenAI models succeed or fail—and know how to communicate that clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Previous experience guiding model evaluation, benchmark design, or experimentation strategies at scale
Ability to thrive in complexity—balancing rigor, pragmatism, and fast-changing needs in highly ambiguous environments
A passion for ethical AI, transparency, and mitigating downstream risks from automated systems
