This role offers a unique opportunity to drive significant impact across the company by developing and advancing the next generation of internal applications that benefit Walmart’s associates.
About the Team
The Wellbeing team is dedicated to the development of enterprise-grade digital applications that enhance business operations throughout Walmart. The team seeks a Staff Software Engineer with substantial experience in software development to oversee and facilitate the creation and scaling of robust, high-performance applications.
Business Context
The GTA Manager Experience (web) is a key business priority for FY26. The objective is to develop a comprehensive manager web experience that will facilitate the launch of a new in-house Managers Global Time & Attendance portal. A senior individual contributor is required to lead this initiative, as it will redesign how Store Managers and facilities operate overall.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will serve as a strong, hands-on individual contributor, actively engaging in coding, automation, and the deployment of large-scale web and mobile solutions. This role demands direct, practical involvement in defining technical strategy, implementing features, and ensuring system performance, scalability, and maintainability. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams while setting a standard for technical excellence through hands-on development. Additionally, the Staff Software Engineer will champion the adoption of emerging GenAI frameworks and best practices within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume ownership of full-stack architecture and implementation for scalable applications supporting more than 2 million users.
- Lead the migration of core functionality from the legacy GTA Platform to Walmart’s web and mobile architecture.
- Oversee the systematic transition of essential workflows and user interface components from the legacy JSP-based system to the new React Native application, ensuring feature parity, comprehensive testing, and readiness for a phased rollout.
- Provide advanced technical leadership and expertise to accelerate the adoption of the industry’s best engineering practices.
- Remain informed of current industry trends, technological innovations, and best practices in software engineering.

- Play a pivotal role in shaping architectural decisions, championing scalable and efficient solutions to meet present and future needs.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership and mentorship to your teammates, other teams, and engineers.
- Lead and participate in medium- to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing and developing code, and conducting unit testing. Communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project teams and cross-functional teams. Troubleshoot open issues and bug-fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs. Interact with the project manager to provide input on the project plan.

Formulate action plans, perform actions as designated in the plan, interpret the results to determine further action, perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrence of issues, and complete online documentation.
- Provide support to the business by responding to users’ questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies). Facilitate resolutions and lead cross-functional partnerships.
