Senior Director, Tax – Indirect (Specialty Tax Operations)Location: Bentonville, AR
We’re looking for a strategic and collaborative tax leader to oversee U.S. Indirect Tax Operations and lead our Indirect Tax Policy efforts. As the Senior Direct, Tax – Indirect (Specialty Tax Operations) you’ll manage Specialty Tax Operations across Walmart, Sam’s Club, and our subsidiaries—ensuring compliance, accuracy, and scalability across every customer channel. You’ll also play a key role in one of our most ambitious transformation efforts: modernizing our tax systems and implementing a new tax engine across the enterprise.

Our team supports compliance and strategy across a massive landscape—including stores, ecommerce, membership, and emerging businesses. The Specialty Tax Operations (STO) team is responsible for making sure taxes are charged correctly to our customers and members, both online and in stores. From staying ahead of law changes in thousands of jurisdictions to configuring our tax engines and tools, this team is at the center of making tax work at Fortune 1 scale. What you'll do...
Lead Tax Operations and Policy related to our transaction tax calculation across all retail and ecommerce platforms.
Lead compliance strategy and modernization efforts for the enterprise tax engine, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and business growth.
Lead enterprise readiness and operational strategy in response to state and local tax law changes, ensuring compliance through process and technology alignment.
Collaborate across product, engineering, legal, and finance teams to embed tax compliance into business systems and strategies.
Cultivate and lead a high-impact tax operations team, driving performance, capability building, and readiness for transformation.
What you’ll bring:
10+ years of indirect tax experience, including sales, use, excise, gross receipts, and product tax, ideally across both industry and consulting.
Experience managing tax operations in omnichannel retail or ecommerce businesses.
Proven leadership in large-scale tax engine implementation or systems transformation in complex, high-volume environments.
Advanced degree or certification preferred (e.g., JD, LLM, CPA, CMI).
Passion for innovation, operational excellence, and driving transformation at Fortune 1 scale.

The annual salary range for this position is $160,000.00-$320,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
