Senior Manager, Research Operations, Walmart Healthcare Research Institute

At WHRI, Research Operations is responsible for the execution of all research projects for our customers. We build and foster strong working relationships with our customers to exceed their expectations while enhancing the Walmart brand. The Senior Manager, Research Operations is responsible for managing projects, people and client relationships. The Senior Manager, Research Operations and their team will have full accountability for the planning, execution, and oversight of projects for one or more customers. This role requires experience in clinical development, project management and client relationships. In addition, this role will work closely with our Solution Design and business development functions as well as the Operational Transformation team. We are looking for folks who are practical and can execute, but with a healthy disregard for the impossible. Project Planning and Strategy 

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for WHRI projects in alignment with WHRI goals. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project objectives, timelines, and resource requirements. 

Project Management 

  • Act as main point of contact for clients during client calls to ensure that project status is communicated to clients. 
  • Provide regular updates to the client and internal teams as well as planned vs actual KPIs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, client requirements industry standards, and ethical guidelines. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Assist teams in removing operational blockers and foster strong collaborations with internal teams.
  • Provide performance feedback for individual team members and operational input to improve established processes.  

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Management: 

  • Ensure all research activities comply with regulatory requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and other relevant standards. 
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement with all internal teams. Encourage the use of established work instructions.

Oversees all operational aspects of WHRI research study operations according to and in compliance with appropriate corporate and industry standards.

Serves as a key member of the study management team responsible for planning, solutioning, recruiting, executing, and closing WHRI research studies.

Delivers research study objectives on time through effective and timely internal and external communication of study progress, issues, and plans for resolution.

Develops study plans outlining planning, execution, and closing of milestones, including monitoring key performance indicators to continuously assess study progress.

Executes the vision and roadmap for operational capabilities necessary to successfully deliver next-generation clinical operations.

Develops the business case, strategy, operations, and resource management for decentralized trial solutions using Walmart data and infrastructure.

Contributes to training for the research operations team.

Participates in investigator, customer, project, and department meetings as needed.

Leverages outside-the-box thinking to develop a new delivery model for research operations within the construct of a retail environment.

Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.

Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity awareness.

Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.

Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor's degree in health science or related area.

5 years’ operational experience in clinical development.

Prior work experience with decentralized trials and/or digital healthcare operations and implementation.

Prior work experience in a clinical research environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

Prior work experience healthcare, clinical trials, regulatory standards, and industry standards.

Prior work experience utilizing Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Prior work experience in a high-growth environment to build a nascent operational infrastructure.
