AboutWalmart Energy Transformation   

The Walmart Energy Transformation team is a newly reimagined energy team that was created to ensure the team has the resources and internal positioning to deliver on Walmart’s energy-related regenerative goals.  The team now reports directly to the COO of Walmart US and the Chief Sustainability Officer.

This new organization is responsible for:

Ensuring energy security and reliability through purchasing energy and optimizing for the lowest cost in regulated and wholesale markets. Building value enhancing clean energy businesses around our unique asset base. Meeting our renewable’s goal of 100% renewables by 2030. Increasing the energy efficiency and reducing emissions across our facilities, and Meeting our 2040 Zero Emissions goal, including transitioning our fleet to zero emissions vehicles.

We are a team of seasoned energy veterans dedicated to realizing Walmart’s regenerative commitments and leveraging Walmart’s platform to support the decarbonization of our customers, associates, communities and suppliers.  Because energy touches everything, we work across Walmart, particularly real estate, facilities, supply chain, network design, transportation and customer experience. We have come from across Walmart, utilities, developers, banking, clean energy consulting and environmental NGOs. What you’ll do…

  • Leveraging significant experience in originating, underwriting, and executing ITC and PTC tax-oriented investments across diverse partnership structures, resulting in the development of a distinctive and well-balanced investment portfolio with risk-adjusted returns.

  • Nurturing deep relationships with developers and sponsors that can be harnessed to initiate new investments, strengthen our power procurement endeavors, and successfully meet our annual targets.

  • Pioneering innovative concepts and products to expand access to tax-efficient capital, whether through transferability or co-investment opportunities, as well as strategic partnerships with our suppliers and industry peers.

  • Demonstrating a keen understanding of the specific tax and operational risks associated with tax-oriented investments and employing this insight to structure transactions that safeguard the interests of Walmart and all stakeholders.

  • Showcasing expertise in the legislative, regulatory, and policy landscape surrounding renewable and sustainable energy, including greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the creation of an investment program that is adaptable to evolving policy and market dynamics.

  • Actively engaging with and participating in renewable energy industry policy and advocacy groups, championing policies that facilitate access to affordable and reliable clean energy for our customers, associates, communities, and suppliers.

  • Cultivating valuable relationships with law firms, independent engineers, accountants, and other pertinent service providers who play an integral role in due diligence, execution, and the management and tracking of tax-oriented investments.

  • Demonstrating technical proficiency, with the ability to thoroughly review and provide insights on cash flow and tax financial modeling for tax-oriented investments.

You’ll make an impact by…

  • As the Senior Manager you will oversee the day-to-day execution of our strategy for tax-oriented investments in offsite renewable energy and decarbonization projects. Your focus will be on opportunities that drive economic value, emissions reduction, and expanded access to affordable and dependable clean energy for our stakeholders.

  • You will play a pivotal role in advancing Walmart's global strategy to accelerate our progress toward achieving our 100% renewable energy goals while delivering value to shareholders, customers, and associates.

  • Collaborating closely with Energy Transformation partners, you will originate, execute, and manage strategic, long-term partnerships with renewable energy developers worldwide, securing programmatic access to renewable energy across Walmart's extensive geographic footprint.

  • You will spearhead initiatives that create value and expedite the decarbonization goals of Walmart's supplier network.

  • You will maintain robust relationships with the renewable energy and decarbonization project developer community, ensuring consistent access to high-quality investment opportunities.

  • Your responsibilities will also include leading internal and external stakeholder engagement regarding Walmart's sustainable and renewable energy tax-oriented investment program. This will involve identifying, reviewing, and actively participating in relevant state and federal policy and regulatory proceedings, as well as monitoring and managing energy-related sustainability matters on the international stage.

  • Overseeing the regulatory and legislative influencing process will be part of your purview, including analyzing, interpreting, and responding to legislation, regulations, and policy issues related to renewable and sustainable energy and greenhouse gas emissions. You will lead the development of positions, draft initial comments, and coordinate with external legal counsel and technical consultants as needed, ensuring timely submission of testimony and briefs.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field and 4 years’ experience in utility operations or related area OR 6 years’ experience in utility operations or related area.
