About Walmart Energy Transformation

The Walmart Energy Transformation team is a newly reimagined energy team that was created to ensure the team has the resources and internal positioning to deliver on Walmart’s energy-related regenerative goals.  The team now reports directly to the COO of Walmart US and the Chief Sustainability Officer. 

This new organization is responsible for:

Buying energy and optimizing for the lowest cost in regulated and wholesale markets. Meeting our renewable’s goal of 100% renewables by 2030 Increasing the energy efficiency and reducing emissions across our facilities Meeting our 2040 Zero Emissions goal, including transitioning our fleet to zero emissions vehicles

We are a team of seasoned energy veterans dedicated to realizing Walmart’s regenerative commitments and leveraging Walmart’s platform to support the decarbonization of our customers, associates, communities and suppliers.  Because energy touches everything, we work across Walmart, particularly real estate, facilities, supply chain, network design, transportation and customer experience. We have come from across Walmart, utilities, developers, banking, clean energy consulting and environmental NGOs. We are innovators and change agents determined to make an impact.  We are analytical and entrepreneurial; thoughtful and practical.

You’ll sweep us off our feet if…

• You are passionate about renewable energy and decarbonization
• If you have strong skills in Financial Modeling, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
• Prior experience with Power Purchasing Agreements and/or Tax-oriented investment initiatives
• You are eager to facilitate and support decarbonization projects through power procurement and structured tax-oriented investments at a dynamic and entrepreneurial organization

What you’ll do…

• Support Walmart’s Renewable Energy initiatives to meet our 100% Renewable goal by 2035 through both renewable PPA procurement and tax-oriented investments initiatives.

• Supporting innovative concepts and products to expand access to tax-efficient capital, whether through transferability or co-investment opportunities, as well as strategic partnerships with our suppliers and industry peers.

• Demonstrating a keen understanding of the specific tax and operational risks associated with tax-oriented investments and employing this insight to structure transactions that safeguard the interests of Walmart and all stakeholders.

• Participation in the legislative, regulatory, and policy landscape surrounding renewable and sustainable energy, including greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the creation of an investment program that is adaptable to evolving policy and market dynamics.

• Support Walmart’s engaging with and participating in renewable energy industry policy and advocacy groups, championing policies that facilitate access to affordable and reliable clean energy for our customers, associates, communities, and suppliers.

• Cultivating valuable relationships with law firms, independent engineers, accountants, and other pertinent service providers who play an integral role in due diligence, execution, and the management and tracking of renewable energy opportunities.

• Demonstrating technical proficiency, with the ability to analyze the economic impact of PPA procurement and tax-oriented investment opportunities.

You’ll make an impact by…

• Supporting the origination of renewable procurement and investment opportunities - Manage NDAs; support communication management and opportunity status tracking; support on initial reviews and opportunity summaries; support on approval material development and data analytics; support documentation of central structural standards for offtake procurement and tax-oriented investment opportunities (financial, tax, accounting standards, policies & elections).

• Transaction Management - Review and summarize diligence documentation for team review; support management of documentation and redlines / edits throughout diligence and funding processes (partnering with Legal and external partners); manage funding checklists and diligence logs.

• Infrastructure & Portfolio Management - Support entity onboarding; support procurement submissions and invoices; consolidate monthly reporting & update forecasts (financial, performance) in partnership with external developer counterparties; support reporting relationship with Business Strategy and Sustainability (generation, financials, REC, emissions).

• Cross-Platform Coordination: Manage working group folders; support knowledge sharing exercises and efforts (lunch & learns, news & policy blasts); support policy partnership with Global Policy, Sustainability and Tax teams.

• Responsibilities: Support detailed model, valuation and return analysis; own the project level models and internal return models / analytics; document and manage central structural standards for tax-oriented investment opportunities (financial, tax, accounting standards, policies & elections) and offtake procurement; support partnership with Business Strategy and Finance on transaction models.
