As part of this Conversational AI platform team, we are looking for a hands-on Principal Software Engineer for building large-scale distributed systems, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; directing and reviewing design artifacts (for example, proof of concepts, prototypes).


About Team:
Our team creates reusable technologies to help with customer acquisition, onboarding, and empowering merchants, while ensuring a seamless experience for both of these stakeholders. We also optimize tariffs and assortment in accordance with Walmart's Everyday Low Cost philosophy. We not only create affordability, but we also deliver customized experiences for customers across all channels - in-store, mobile app, and websites.

What you'll do:

  • Evangelize our architectural blueprints by leading the creation and evolution of an integrated architecture program based on business and customer needs. Architectural responsibility for an engineering/PD team for a cross cutting technological concerns (scale, performance, resiliency, etc)
  • Partner closely with senior product management and offer strategies that take good advantage of technological opportunities and are technological pragmatic, and accordingly evaluate build-buy-partner decisions for bringing new capabilities to drive building of brand-new capabilities form concept to launch.
  • Demonstrating the business value of architecture as an enabler for business strategy implementation and technology innovation measuring and monitoring milestones for reliability, efficiency, security, operational excellence, and cost optimization 
  • Improve our technology environment by researching and analyzing industry trends and best practices. 
  • Benchmarking industry against internal processes and solutions defining software development guidelines, standards, and processes sponsoring, developing, and influencing continuous improvement initiatives and experiments with innovative technologies evaluating and negotiating with external vendors and services 
  • Oversee large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects by translating strategies and requirements into technical solutions
  • Directing and reviewing architectural artifacts (for example, proofs of concept, prototypes, architectural designs) communicating status and issues to engineering and product leaders as well as other stakeholders.
  • Providing technical and thought leadership to the development teams. Partner closely with engineering directors and spanned engineering managers to recruit, develop and retain the teams engineering staffs or experts in the owned cross cutting area.


What you'll bring:

  • Over 10 years of experience in architecting large distributed systems with challenges of scalability and delivering sub-second latencies on 99.99% uptime.
  • Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum, agile)
  • Experience with architecting and building complex, highly available, distributed systems using technologies like - React JS, NodeJS, Java, Redis, Cassandra, WebSocket, Queueing mechanisms like Active MQ, Kafka. 
  • Experience/Exposure/Understanding of Conversational A I Platform, • Experience designing/building micro services oriented architecture, Rest API’s, ML and Messaging Platforms.
  • Experience with designing and building Mobil Apps - iOS or Android. 
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies, Relational DB and No-SQL DB • Hands on with with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Jenkins and Maven, code coverage tools like sonar. 
  • Experience interacting with business and product partners to gather the right requirements.
  • Experience as a tech lead who can own and drive products and work with key business stakeholders, while mentoring and growing junior team members.
  • Good to have - understanding of NLP and Data Science.
  • Provide technical leadership to the engineering teams with design, scaling, performance, DR and highly availability mechanism.
  • Mentor teams to define design and development standards, engineering practices around releases, coding, unit testing and incidents management. 
  • Build partnerships with cross-discipline team members. 
  • Understands the holistic vision and aligns platform architecture with it. 
  • Hands on with building CICD pipelines.

The annual salary range for this position is $168,000.00-$252,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.
