Senior Software Engineering Manager I

Team Description:

Walmart's Advertising Technology group enables the connection between supplier brands and retail shoppers at unprecedented scale. We are a highly motivated group of engineers and data scientists, working in an agile group to solve sophisticated and high impact problems. We serve billions of ad requests every month with our high-performance ad servers. We build smart data systems that ingest, model, analyze and optimize the massive flow of data from online and store user activity and transactions. We use cutting edge machine learning, data mining and optimization algorithms on this data. Above all, we are laser focused on delivering experiences that our customers and advertisers love.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years of experience in software engineering or related field OR 6 years of experience in software engineering or related field.

  • Prior leadership/management experience (3+ direct reports and 1+ year(s) of experience).

  • Experience managing software development engineers and lead engineering projects.

  • Experience working with modern, web-based architectures, including REST APIs, Serverless, event-driven microservices

  • Experience in coordinating, creation and completion of technical design and discussions that help drive technical architecture

  • Experience in 360º people management, growing & grooming teams and to ensure the happiness and productivity of the team’s software engineers.

  • Experience with risk management (technical, product, personnel)

  • Experience in partnering with cross-functional project development and in collaborating with other scrum teams, QA, Release Management, Program Management, and TechOps.

  • Experience providing guidance and influence in other areas of the Engineering (e.g. DevOps and Test Engineering).

  • Experience participating in relevant Engineering and Technical Operations workgroups and on-call rotations to assure service availability and operational excellence.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining high-quality, developer-centric API products.

  • Experience in architecting and building large-scale, cloud-based and event-driven systems across various projects is nice to have.

  • Deep understanding of system design, data structures, and algorithms

  • Experience participating in relevant Engineering and Technical Operations workgroups and on-call rotations to assure service availability and operational excellence.

  • Candidate with a growth mindset who will raise the technical bar, and identify opportunities to improve existing processes, tools and systems to achieve high scale and productivity.
