Position: Sr. Manager, Energy Informatics and Performance Measurement

Job Location: 702 S.W. 8th Street, Bentonville, AR 72716

Duties: Manages the development and implementation of improved energy control strategies (for example, intelligent thermostats) for Walmart by testing concepts, technical and financial analysis, and forecasting; preparing and making presentations to executives regarding recommendations; managing the project bid and award process; negotiating contracts; and budgeting for and managing the installation of approved projects. Manages the development of strategic partnerships and joint product development initiatives by providing detailed product development input to new and existing product suppliers (for example, GE regarding new LED lighting systems); meeting with potential partners; evaluating opportunities; creating formal technology partner relationships with the assistance of the Legal department; participating directly or assigning associates to participate on projects as appropriate; and resolving conflicts or performance issues. Leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of the real-time energy data system by working with clients to gather desired and necessary system capabilities; establishing system design specifications and documentation; managing internal and external software developers in the development, testing, and roll-out of the system and updates within stores on a global basis. Evaluates new energy technologies (for example, lighting systems) by reviewing and evaluating external and internal requests for potential incorporation into Walmart Facilities; testing potential technologies determined to be promising; working with independent technical experts (for example, Oakridge National Labs of the department of Energy); and recommending projects for funding or partnership to executives. Evaluates technical and financial potential or actual performance of proposed and implemented energy projects (for example, installation of variable frequency drives in HVAC/R systems) on an ad hoc basis by applying in-depth knowledge of store operations and energy systems; gathering relevant data and information; calculating return on investment (ROI) and other financial indicators; comparing projects; sharing information in writing and in presentation format; and making recommendations. Optimizes Facility energy consumption by conducting energy efficiency audits; identifying opportunities for improved processes; influencing store Operations leaders to adopt programs and commit capital resources; and coordinating with the Facilities Monitoring department to implement strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education and experience required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related field and 2 years experience in building systems design, controls or operation or related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years experience, employer will accept 6 years experience in building systems design, controls or operation or related field.

Skills required: Must have any amount of experience with: Prop 39 projects; energy modelling and benchmarking; Measurement and Verification (M&V) plan development and reporting using IPMVP; energy informatics; ASHRAE Level II and III auditing; automation and improvement of building energy systems, including HVAC and interior/exterior lighting systems; and identification of energy controls savings opportunities.
