What you'll do

Position: Senior Manager, General Accounting
Job Location: Bentonville, AR
Duties: Communicates accounting impacts, issues, and strategic directions by leading discussions with senior leadership and other internal stakeholders; explaining accounting impacts of changes and issues; and creating and delivering accounting presentations in meetings with internal customers. Manages accounting processes by reviewing and updating accruals and other accounting calculations (for example, fixed assets, inventory, debt, bonus). Manages and provides support for finance and business areas involved in month-end close by managing communications in assigned countries (for example, Puerto Rico, Canada, U.S.); providing communications on status; responding to inquiries; closing business segments with the SAP system; and ensuring accurate entry of month-end close information. Oversees Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance by validating SOX documentation; ensuring key controls are in place and functioning; reviewing the narrative, flowchart, and matrix for SOX processes; reviewing work papers for interim testing; resolving audit issues; maintaining segregation of duties and fraud protection to protect company assets; and executing controls and company policies. Ensures appropriate accounting data is processed to the general ledger and reported by gaining an understanding of assigned business functional accounting areas (for example, Corporate, Operations, Operations Support, and Close/Balance Sheet Controls); and liaising with business function accounting areas to further knowledge of accounting needs and issues. Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects for Shared Services - General Accounting by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. Oversees financial reports, balance sheet accounts, and financial audits for each assigned business area (for example, Canada, Puerto Rico, Sam's Finance, Logistics Finance) by analyzing financial data; comparing data to third-party information, budgets, or actual results; researching and reviewing associates' research of balance sheet account variances; discussing business impacts to the profit and loss (P&L) within accounting rules; ensuring audits are managed for timelines and accuracy; and facilitating the relationship between the team and internal customers and external specialists (for example, third party actuaries and auditors). Ensures generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory compliance by researching and keeping abreast of regulatory changes; ensuring the company financial statements are compliant with GAAP; and ensuring required governmental forms and reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education and experience required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 2 years experience in an accounting, financial or related role. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years experience, the employer will accept 4 years experience in an accounting, financial or related role.

Skills required: Must have experience with: Hyperion Financial Management; Enterprise Resource Management, including SAP FI/CO; Excel, including build functions, pivot tables and chart development; Global Consolidation and Financial Analysis; investment to equity eliminations; intercompany eliminations, month end close process; and balance sheet and profit and loss fluctuation analysis.
