What you'll do

Evaluates quality of plant inbound proteins (for example, beef and pork subprimals, whole chickens). Improves quality of finalized goods by overseeing the development, maintenance, assessment, and coordination of the quality inspection program (for example, on-site audits, inbound inspection program); inspecting proteins according to Walmart specifications; utilizing subject matter expertise on normal fluctuations with proteins to determine quality; creating a feedback loop to upstream fabrication plant; and implementing actions that ensure meat quality is up to standards when the meat continues into the company supply chain.

Ensures compliance of quality specifications in terms of cutting, styling, packaging, and labeling by inspecting execution of Walmart quality standards; reviewing supplier performance on quality standards in real time on the production line, including stopping a production line to resolve quality issues; building Walmart’s quality reputation in meat; inspecting key areas of the facility (for example, processing conditions, sanitation standards, food safety); guiding the utilization and communication of inspection data; and confirming that suppliers are taking appropriate corrective actions (for example, removal of meat from production line, repackaging to meet quality and presentation expectations).

Drives cold chain compliance of storage areas and shipping process to maintain quality throughout the supply chain by reviewing prevention activities and issue resolution that connect with supplier quality functions across facility campus; working with suppliers and external manufacturers to ensure compliance; analyzing data to determine process gaps; developing process improvements and collaborating with suppliers and external manufacturers to implement these improvements; tracking and monitoring the impact of process changes; proactively anticipating risk and addressing preventative action across facility campus; and completing facility audits and proactively addressing risk areas.

Leads meat quality assurance program development and optimization by researching and benchmarking industry standards, processes, and programs; developing and implementing the meat quality assurance processes and programs: developing and utilizing reports to monitor and maintain accurate recording of meat inspection data; analyzing data to determine trends, concerns, and process gaps; overseeing collaboration with supplier partner to implement solutions (for example, cross-training, process improvement, quality standards); tracking and monitoring the impact of solutions; and providing feedback and recommendations to senior leadership and cross-functional team within Walmart and the supplier organization.

Minimum Qualifications

5 years’ experience in meat cutting, processing, or related function.
2 years’ experience developing relationships and negotiating with external partners (for example, manufacturers, suppliers).

7 years’ experience in a plant environment meat cutting, processing, or related function.Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field.
5 years’ experience translating meat specifications into final products.
3 years’ experience inspecting quality based on product specifications.
3 years’ experience leading teams, providing direct performance feedback to others, or related experience.
3 years’ experience applying U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) processes and specifications, hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP), and/or food laws and relations.
