What you'll do at

  • Assists in providing guidance to small groups of two to three engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned Engineering projects
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans
  • Manages small to large-sized complex projects
  • Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Participates in the discovery phase of small to medium-sized projects to come up with high level design
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions
  • Provides support to the business
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues

As a Software Engineer 3 - Tech for Walmart’s Global Data Analytics Platform, you will have the opportunity to manage and support multiple platforms and tools such as Hadoop, Google Cloud Platform, Metadata Tools etc. This hands-on position, will be part of the DevOps team, working initially in the area of Metadata Management & Governance and can be expanded later to multiple other platforms as well.

As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will be working closely with the product and business stakeholders and other development teams, DBA's, operations, release and scheduling teams, and quality assurance teams. You will be responsible for the end to end delivery of the product, enhancements to existing processes and day to day support. You should have the passion and willing attitude to learn new technologies and adapt as per the needs.

  • Serve as a primary point responsible for the overall health, performance, and capacity of one or more of our Platform tools
  • Gain deep knowledge of our complex applications.
  • Assist in the roll-out and deployment of new product features and installations to facilitate our rapid iteration and constant growth.
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure that platforms are designed with "operability" in mind.
  • Function well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Participate in a 24x7 rotation for second-tier escalations.
  • Support Business requests for investigation and analysis and respond quickly to critical business requests
  • Interface with multiple diverse stakeholders and gather/understand business requirements
  • Collaborate with product team, senior management, peer development teams, DBA's, operations, release and scheduling teams, and quality assurance team for day to day operations
  • You will need to have background in Metadata Management, Data Governance, with Python, Unix, and SQL experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\\'s degree in Computer Science and 2 years experience in software engineering or related field OR 4 years experience in software engineering or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience in data warehousing projects including technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, SQL etc.
  • Experience in data governance and metadata management projects.
  • Broad experience with multiple types of database management systems (relational, document-oriented, key-value).
  • 2+ years in a UNIX-based large-scale web operations role.
  • Experience with Python, Perl, Ruby, or Java.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux systems and/or systems administration experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science/Management Information Systems or other technical discipline.
  • Python experience, specifically for systems automation.
  • Previous experience working with geographically distributed team.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (including listening, speaking, and writing) and ability to work well in a diverse, team-focused environment with other SREs, Engineers, Product Managers, etc.
  • Basic understanding of Internet protocols and network programming.
  • Excellent communication skills, initiative, and teamwork.
