What you'll do at

Senior Search & Relevance Engineer
As a Senior Search & Relevance Engineer on the Sam's Club Search Team, your mission is to design, build, and scale a world class search engine that will delight our tens of millions of Sam's Club members. Every month millions of visitors trust the Sam's club app and to find exciting products and an incredible value. Your job is to make their lives simple by helping them find the products they want, when they want them. Your primary responsibilities include:
• Deliver the most relevant and reliable search experience by bringing together the best search algorithms, search technologies, and search infrastructure.
• Develop search technologies for one of the largest retailers on planet earth
• Implement and scale the Sam's Club search engine to serve our millions of visitors

In addition you will:
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in Software Engineering and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans
  • Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale projects
  • Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design
  • Leads the work of other small groups of four to six engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned Engineering projects
  • Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions
  • Provides support to the business
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues


Minimum Qualifications

BS in Computer Science and MS/CS or relevant experience
4 years in Java Development
Experience with any combination of Big Data technology and/or Elasticsearch or Apache Solr

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing large-scale systems
• Experience with Elasticsearch or Apache Solr is preferred
• Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc. is preferred
