What you'll do at

At Walmart, our customers are at the center of all our design efforts, and design research is core to how we understand the millions of people who use our stores, sites and apps. We are seeking a Director of Design Research to lead a dynamic & collegial team of researchers, who are passionate about understanding our customers through a diverse set of practices and methods. The director will partner with key teams (product, engineering, merchants and marketing) to ensure we continue to create experiences that are inclusive, usable, useful, and delightful. The director will deliver research across our diverse portfolio, because no matter if a customer is shopping with us online or in our stores, the customer experience needs to be in service of their needs & goals.

Key Responsibilities
* Support design researcher in developing research programs and prioritizing research questions across our diverse product portfolio
* Balance rigor with impact, in selection of methods and timely delivery of actionable findings
* Encourage professional development for researchers of all levels, deepen the overall research practice, and continue building the research team
* Work with design & product leaders to identify future learning opportunities
* Partner with analytics & market research counterparts to create unified learning plans, and develop a comprehensive picture of our customers.
* Oversee the research budget to ensure researchers have the right platforms & tools and hire vendors


Minimum Qualifications

* 7+ years of practice leading research projects in an agile environment
* BA/BS in human computer interaction, experimental psychology, cognitive science, or other related area.
* Expertise across a wide-range of generative, formative & evaluative methods for user research, such as field research, participatory design and other concept research methods, various forms of usability studies including rapid iterative test and evaluation (RITE), survey design and analysis/
* Track record of being a persuasive customer advocate, a user research thought leader, and be able to use both to skillfully influence product design.

Preferred Qualifications

* Masters, PhD or comparable expert experience (10+ years) in HCI, Human Factors, usability or related field.
* Demonstrated ability to make strategic customer-centric recommendations with direct company and business impact to executive-level audiences.
