What you'll do at

Location: Watsonville, Salinas, Monterey

Verifies quality and food safety standards by collaborating with cross-functional teams (for example, Quality Control in DCs, Merchants, Compliance) to ensure compliance with company's regulatory and food safety certifications and quality standards; ensuring packing facilities and shipping locations are properly registered; monitoring vendors' certification on key global standards (for example, BRC, SQF, IFS, GlobalGAP); and serving as the vendor pre-qualification coordinator.

Monitors compliance by ensuring that vendor approvals are carried out in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications; providing training to all stakeholders on company quality and food safety standards and programs to ensure business goals are aligned with stakeholder business goals; performing pre-production and production testing and product inspections; and conducting packing house, field, and final product inspections.

Provides reporting and feedback to stakeholders by providing reports on production and vendor performance; communicating feedback to team and leadership on quality-related issues prior to shipping; ensuring optimal communication to key stakeholders on any vendor, product quality, or food safety related issues through clear and concise reports; and participating in vendor negotiations to provide feedback on product quality scores and requirements (for example, audit, sustainability, food safety) and provide quality specification changes.

Conducts market research by understanding company competitors and gathering crop and market intelligence on local sourcing activities through contact with vendors, industry representatives, or analytics partners; and performing store visits to evaluate product quality.

Provides in-depth agro-intelligence on commodities by evaluating new and existing vendors based on performance metrics and long-term potential; supporting the merchant and leadership with supplier alignment recommendations (for example, freshness, upstreaming, product availability, locally grown and organic programs); ensuring alignment between company growth strategy and quality management planning (for example, upstreaming, growth in direct import (DI), protected agriculture); providing agro-intelligence and supplier capability insights to merchant for negotiations with vendors to obtain freshest product at the lowest sustainable cost; measuring and tracking awarded volumes against actual volume through the commitment tracker; providing timely and expert-level agro-intelligence to the cross-functional team; and informing the merchant of changes to crop conditions that will affect cost of goods.

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.

Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field and 1 years’ experience in manufacturing, quality control, product development, or related field OR 3 years’ experience in manufacturing, quality control, product development, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
Six Sigma or related certification.
International Standards Organization (ISO) Certification.
2 years’ experience in product testing within a retail. environment.
2 years’ experience in product sourcing.
2 years’ experience working on multi-national teams.
