We are looking for a seasoned and energetic principal engineer who can drive the development of our platform working with a group of high energy engineers, architects, product managers and leadership team. This role requires a technically strong candidate who is able to drive development in a fast paced environment. The candidate is expected to work with global teams, provide thought leadership, understand the business context, and help deliver solutions working with product and program management teams. Be accountable for the engineering practices in the team like technical design, CI-CD, code quality, planning & delivering features Work with business stakeholders, architects, UX designers, product & program managers Work with global teams to deliver industry leading capabilities Able to identify & convey risks & issues to the leadership and help drive mitigate them. Raise the bar for the team on technology with predictable & consistent deliveries Good knowledge of Agile practices, Devops Partner with infrastructure teams Stay up to date with emerging technologies and develop quick POCs to validate their viability. What you'll do: As a Principal Software Engineer, you€™ll spend your days translating requirements into solutions, writing code, reusable components and services, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing us with the insights necessary to think beyond the status quo. You€™ll oversee multiple project teams consisting of other engineers who will look to you as a trusted advisor, a subject matter expert who provides guidance and the right tools to get the job done. Technical Leadership: Drive the technical vision and strategy for the engineering team. Stay current with cutting-edge technologies and best practices in software engineering. Business Acumen and Strategic Planning: Comprehend the business context of the work, make informed decisions that align with the overall leadership vision and strategy, and identify opportunities to leverage technology to drive business outcomes. Team Leadership: Lead a team of highly skilled engineers. Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment. Facilitate team meetings, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions. Project Management: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure high standards of quality. Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to team members. Promote continuous learning and professional development within the team. Influence without Authority: Establish yourself as the de-facto technical authority for the team in order to establish visibility - if not accountability €“ into all technology decisions. Role Model: Model compliance with company policies and procedures and support company standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of technology solutions; using the Open-Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in their practices. Intellectual Authority: Utilize industry research to improve Walmart's technology environment by analysing industry best practices; benchmarking industry against internal processes and solutions; researching or influencing future industry solutions for fit with internal needs; and defining software development guidelines, standards, and processes. What you'll bring: Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent 12-16 years of experience architecting and developing scalable solutions Established track record of designing and architecting small to the large solutions using appropriate design patterns Strong hands-on experience in at least one object oriented programming language like Java, C# or Python along with the supporting technology ecosystem. Strong understanding of Agile methodology and leveraging SDLC tools to improve development and testing efficiency (JIRA, Jenkins, GIT, JUnit, Selenium, Lint) Experience in building secure, highly available, resilient, scalable distributed systems leveraging clustering and load balancing of web servers, app servers, and messaging systems Deep knowledge of microservices & event-driven architecture patterns Strong Knowledge of container-based development, orchestration, microservices frameworks and related tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Spring Boot, Jersey, Swagger etc.) Exposure to web development and modern JS Frameworks is a strong plus (JavaScript, HTML 5, Angular or ReactJS) Demonstrated experience of evaluating short- and long- term timelines; reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns; and driving design and code review process. Ability to step outside direct technical ownership and provide support in areas like performing technical feasibility, researching new solutions; evaluating new designs; system enhancement evaluation; and user support for areas outside direct influence. Experience of troubleshooting business and production issues by gathering information (for example, issue, impact, criticality); performing root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engaging support teams when needed and establishing these practices for the larger team as a best practice. Demonstrated use of up-to-date expertise to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales. Track record of supporting the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
