Senior Manager, Global Communications - My Local Social (MLS) Associate Activation Lead

If making a meaningful impact at scale and fostering innovation excites you, this may be your perfect role.

As the My Local Social (MLS) Associate Activation Lead, you will lead a team of three dynamic MLS Regional Leads to educate and empower our associates to support one of the largest social media initiatives in the United States - Walmart’s My Local Social program.  Your primary responsibility will be in activating our associate base to safely create and share brand-safe social content that humanizes Walmart, builds affinity at the local level, and drives growth for our business.  You will shape the strategy, curriculum, and execution of the program’s digital and in-person training to help us meet customers where they are.

As the face of the program to many across the organization, you will build strong cross-functional relationships across Marketing, Operations, Corporate Affairs, and regional field leadership; onboard new users to our platform; and champion best practices for creating engaging, strategic content on the company’s store-level Facebook and Instagram pages. In partnership with the Walmart Connect team, you will support shoppable commerce opportunities across the program. Your team will also help stores navigate sensitive issues and localized crises, providing empathetic and expert social media counsel to store leaders when they need it most.

What you’ll do…

  • Drive MLS Associate Engagement and Brand Safety: As the MLS Associate Activation Lead, you will help set the vision for the program and collaboratively develop a comprehensive curriculum to drive governance and best practices for My Local Social platform users. You, along with your team of MLS Regional Leads, will empower associates to create engaging, brand-safe social content that meets our customers where they are. Stay ahead of the curve by continuously improving our approach based on user feedback, policy updates and industry best practices.

  • Promote Ongoing Program Success: Building strong relationships is at the core of this role. You will work closely with various teams across the Walmart Home Office and field leadership to continuously shape and evolve the program. You will also partner with the Marketing My Local Social campaign planner to help motivate platform users to support strategic national campaigns.

  • Local Story and Content Support: Every associate has a story to tell. As you deepen relationships with store associates, your team will be sourcing and amplifying associate stories that are authentic, relevant, and resonant with local and national audiences.

  • Issues Management: During localized moments of crisis, your team will collaborate cross-functionally with Corporate Affairs, Marketing, Tech and the Emergency Operations Center to ensure streamlined communication and effective support for the store, our associates and the local community.

  • Champion the Work: You and your team of regional leaders will be champions of the My Local Social program - embracing the principles of servant leadership, advocating for our customers and associates, and operating with openness to change. Some travel may be required.

  • Goals & Metrics: As a committed advocate for the program’s success, you will collaborate with Marketing and Marketing Tech to establish KPIs that will serve as a north star for the program to successfully build affinity at the local level and drive growth for our business. You’ll work in tandem on regular reporting and hold the team accountable for the goals set.

What you’ll bring…

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field and 4 years’ experience in corporate communications, public relations, or relevant area OR 6 years’ experience in corporate communications, public relations, or relevant area
  • 1+ year supervisory experience or experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and content creation best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships quickly, influence without direct authority and work collaboratively across functions
  • Strong judgement and the ability to think strategically
  • Outstanding project management skills and ability to show ownership, appropriately prioritize and meet deadlines

You’ll blow us away if you have…

  • 2+ years of in-person or virtual learning curriculum development, training, or facilitation experience
  • Experience working in a Sam’s Club or Walmart store
  • Deep expertise in Meta platforms
  • Experience in crisis communication
