What you'll do at

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer professional in our Sunnyvale, CA office.

Duties: Design, prototype, and deliver highly scalable and reliable production ready code. Develop and operate code across multiple productions systems. Work with Hadoop, MapReduce and large-scale Analytics systems that are capable of ingesting, managing, storing and analyzing hundreds of terabytes of data. Participate in medium- to large-scale projects which apply data science to predicting and optimizing ads relevance, as well as measuring the incremental effects of an ad campaign on purchasing behavior. Oversee discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design. Guide the work of other small groups of four to six engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned engineering projects. Work closely with engineering management on optimizing all engineering processes such as estimation, architecture, task definition, etc. Work closely with Project Managers on planning and execution tracking. Model compliance with company policies and procedures and support company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity. Provide and support the implementation of business solutions. Provide applications development support to the business. Troubleshoot business and production issues. Supervise 5 employees: Senior Software Engineer, Staff Software Engineer(s), Staff Data Scientist(s), Principal Data Scientist.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment; OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 6 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment.

Skills required: Demonstrated knowledge of Hadoop and map-reduce. Hands on experience with Hive and Bash. Demonstrated knowledge of Spark. Demonstrated knowledge of SQL. Coding skills in Python, Java, or similar. Machine learning and data mining experience. Experience working with Linux. Employer will accept any amount of experience with the required skills.
