What you'll do at
Location: Bentonville, AR
Duties: Anticipates and proactively plans for methods to improve business performance for Membership products and services (for example, improve upon prior year sales, profit) by directing and collaborating with groups external to Membership (for example, Marketing, DotCom, Information Systems Division (ISD)); developing new Member acquisition strategies; determining business requirements and metrics; creating and executing business plans; leading teams (for example, cross-functional project teams) to achieve goals and objectives; monitoring performance; and adjusting activities to objectives (including sales and profitability targets). Conceptualizes new technology applications and enhancements to existing programs by examining and integrating business opportunities, Member needs, competitor and industry trends; conducting cost-benefit analyses; and developing recommendations for implementation. Develops multiple relationships with external parties (for example, Suppliers, consultants) by interfacing with executives and leadership teams; influencing partners' business models; ensuring Sam's Club receives optimal terms for new Membership product and service development; and fostering long-term, sustainable relationships. Recommends revenue and profit goals for new Membership products and services by establishing forecasted growth based on in-depth examination and integration of trends, current and past business performance, business opportunities, competitive market share, Member needs, and the competition; conducting competitor and trend analyses across products and demographics that are critical to drive growth and marketplace leadership; and presenting project budgets and forecasts for approval. Interprets long-range divisional vision and directs Membership Insights and Innovation Teams by identifying new business opportunities for business expansion; assigning new product concepts to Project Managers; designing and managing or guiding the design and management of new product offerings; developing new Member acquisition strategies; and assisting with the negotiation of contracts which support current and future initiatives. Leads the design, analysis, implementation, and ongoing management of the new strategic Membership product and services portfolio so that it aligns with trends and relevant Member needs and supports and perpetuates the growth of Membership by performing and utilizing market research and competitive analysis; evaluating targets and fit with strategy; negotiating complex business arrangements with potential partners; and determining and implementing system requirements and delivery channels. Participates in the development of enhancements to Membership products and services to promote sales and add value for segment Members by conducting and directing competitive analyses; utilizing Member research; examining external partner capabilities; using and integrating data from own and others' analyses to recommend new product offerings; and collaborating with other departments (for example, Marketing, DotCom) in implementing and enhancing programs. Participates in the development of strategic plans and recommendations for segment based on Member insight and knowledge by gathering and analyzing marketplace and competitive intelligence; identifying strategic market opportunities and 'go-to market' recommendations; accessing and mining data from internal and external systems (for example, Information Engine, National Product Data (NPD), The Nielson Company, Information Resources, Inc. (IRI)); recommending strategic and tactical business proposals; partnering with key stakeholders on the refinement of target segmentation and analysis, segment tactics and programs, and sizing of opportunities; and incorporating insights to make better decisions with Buying Team and other cross-functional areas (for example, Membership, DotCom).
Skills required: Must have experience with: converting business problems into analytical frameworks such as SCQ (Situation, Complication, Question), factor map, hypothesis matrix, solution maturity roadmap, and scope; using data science and analytics to create strategic customer-centric frameworks to set business operating principles, goals, performance measurement metrics; working with various cross functional groups internally and with external vendor partners; Marketing or Membership products and services; enabling better supplier negotiations using data and analytics; creating clusters based on customer cross shopping behavior; automating business processes which automatically learns and improves over time using a feedback mechanism; embedding smart data science algorithms in execution systems; driving adoption of data science products; end to end analytical product deployment framework; syndicated data sources, including Nielsen, POS transaction data, product attribute data, customer household data; statistical modelling techniques, including linear regression, advanced forecasting techniques like ARIMAX, lasso ridge, mix modelling, market basket analysis, cluster/segmentation analysis, AB Testing, exploratory data analysis; data manipulation tools SQL and SAS; and data visualization tools VBA and Tableau.
