Walmart Technology is seeking a transformative leader to play an instrumental role in our journey to be a best-in-class organization optimized for our modern cloud solutions. As a Director in cloud engineering, you’ll lead a team responsible for engineering innovative cloud based solutions and leading a large organization on a journey from on-premise to public cloud. You’ll cultivate a high performing team and guide them in advancing their technical and engineering skills to meet the demands of rapidly evolving technologies.

The Job: You will leverage your experience and savvy to lead our cloud engineering and application refactoring teams in accelerating the migration of our existing workloads to the public cloud as well as consulting on best practices and advocated patterns for new application development. You'll focus on strategically moving the organization to the public cloud optimizing for business value, disaster recovery, compliance controls, application rationalization and operational efficiency. We are looking for someone with a unique balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills, as well as a proven track record of growing and developing technologists. You'll need to be adaptable as internal and external pressures change while keeping the big picture in mind. Possess an acute sense of urgency and are able to resolve project issues and roadblocks throughout the lifecycle. You'll accomplish this by working with all cross-functional partners as necessary. You'll develop relationships with business partners. You'll communicate resolution and/or critical issue of pertinent project issues, along with ongoing regular updates to manager level and executive level is required.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:
• Cultivate a diverse, high-performing team that develops, recognizes and retains the best people and challenges them to advance their technical and engineering skills to meet the demands of rapidly evolving technologies.
• Lead teams in strategic planning of a multi-year effort of application modernization to public cloud.
• Direct daily 24/7 operations of the team; enforcing priorities, monitoring and analyzing operational effectiveness metrics and ensuring problems are identified and solved quickly and efficiently.
• Navigate and contribute to the intersection of engineering and operations, driving automation to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Plan and manage cloud consumption budget to ensure expenditure is in line.
• Effectively plan and manage vendor engagements to expand our workforce capacity as needed.
• Foster a culture that leverages metrics to make informed decisions and guide change.
• Lead partnerships with Product Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, and Data Engineering teams to find the optimal way to scale the infrastructure though multi cloud consumption approach.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science and 6 years experience in software engineering or related field OR 8 years experience in software engineering or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years or more relevant professional experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in the implementation of cloud technologies preferred
  • Experience with large scale application and infrastructure modernization initiatives
  • Experience establishing and managing vendor relationships required
  • Experience working with large and geographically distributed teams required
  • Practical experience with lean and agile methodologies
