What you'll do at

The Senior Merchant is accountable for leading their product category performance in a specialized retail format. The primary responsibilities include managing all merchandising activities as well as directing all cross functional activities involving their business including but not limited to marketing, sourcing, supply chain, replenishment, financial planning, equipment maintenance and repair, product packaging, in-club production operations, and product development. In addition, the Senior Merchant will need to actively manage and mitigate the high risk profile associated with the unique business model so the clubs can exceed our member’s expectations and consistently deliver their financial obligations. In addition to the core essential functions, this position will heavily focus on:

Category Strategy and Execution
As a Senior Merchant, you will be expected to develop, communicate, implement, and execute multi-year merchandising strategies to consistently over-deliver on their financial obligations for the company. You will improve club-level execution, member satisfaction, and create sustainable competitive advantage for Sam’s Club.

Financial and Analytical
Good financial performance is not only dependent on executing against budgets but can also be an indicator of how we are serving our members. Developing well-supported short and long-term plans and operating as an Every Day Low Cost (EDLC) organization is the lifeblood of our company.

Product Expertise, Development, and Innovation
The Senior Merchant will be expected to grow membership satisfaction through quality, innovative, and trendsetting products.

Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Packaging
The Senior Merchant will be responsible for making sure that products are effectively and efficiently sourced and packaged to ensure supply chain effectiveness and cost efficiencies and product presentation in the clubs.

Supplier Negotiation/Development
The Senior Merchant will be responsible for leading negotiations with suppliers to gain long-term benefits and cost savings on trendsetting products.

This position is responsible for the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.


Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 years experience with direct responsibility for profit and loss (P&L) statements.
  • Bachelor s degree in Business or related field and 5 years experience in merchandising or related field OR 7 years experience in merchandising or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6 years supervisory experience.
  • 8 years experience in merchandising or related field.
