As a member of the Catalog Engineering Team, you'll feel firsthand the amplifying impact of Walmart's global scale. Every day, we move billions of data transactions through our pipeline, ingesting product data from tens of thousands of suppliers and sellers. Using state-of-the-art technologies - like big data tools, ML & AI techniques, natural language process, and image recognition tools - we solve interesting problems ranging from analytical decision-making to sleek UX.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you are first and foremost a Technology Leader capable of effectively establishing and exerting influence at a broad scale. You are a skillful communicator that can challenge not only Engineers, but also Business Teams to think outside the box. You will be responsible for crafting Architectural Design for systems that process billions of transactions per day. You will work on evangelizing robust technical standards that will guide the work of 100s of engineers, and you will build credibility not only by influencing but by doing and showing.

• Superb communication and analytical skills
• Experience evangelizing Technical Standards across large orgs to drive concrete outcomes
• Broad multi-industry experience designing proven distributed systems with a focus on Operational Excellence
• Eye for spotting the right tradeoffs when it comes to fine-tuning systems for speed, robustness, and cost efficiency
• Ability to coach, challenge, and guide engineers on the issue troubleshooting front via a Root Cause Analysis process
• Participate in setting the technical vision and objectives for multiple teams in alignment with business and market needs

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field
• Knowledge of cloud patterns (Google or Azure preferred)
• 7+ years of programming experience (JVM preferred)
• 5+ years of experience in building large-scale data pipelines using big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, Hadoop, Solr)
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Service Mesh (e.g., Envoy, istio)
