The (USA) Director, Automation Engineering leads the development and implementation of advanced automation solutions in Transportation Engineering. This role will lead a team focused on yard modernization to automate and enhance transportation yards. The role will influence strategic decision making, drive technology integration, and enhance operations. This role collaborates across functions to develop strategies, builds business cases, and advances transportation automation projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial goals. By fostering continuous improvement and managing complex initiatives, this position supports innovation and operational excellence while maintaining clear communication and strong partnerships throughout the enterprise.
About the team:
Walmart’s Transportation Engineering team leads innovation in one of North America’s largest private fleets, focusing on zero-emissions technology, autonomous systems, and yard modernization. The team integrates automation, infrastructure, and large-scale operations to develop and deploy advanced fleet technologies. Collaborating with internal and external partners, it advances solutions from concept through scaled deployment, ensuring operational efficiency and financial viability. This group shapes Walmart’s transportation strategy through continuous improvement, advanced analytics, automation, and project management, driving impactful results that support the company’s commitment to operational excellence and sustainable growth.
What you'll do:

• Lead the design, implementation, and integration of advanced automation systems to optimize supply chain processes.
• Develop business cases and strategies to move forward transportation automation initiatives
• Manage cross-functional programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivering measurable return on investment.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop long-range automation plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Oversee testing, monitoring, and performance evaluation of automation equipment and systems.
• Communicate complex technical information clearly to various teams and influence actionable outcomes.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence through process optimization and systems thinking.

What you'll bring:

• Proven expertise in automation engineering, including system design, integration, and implementation within complex supply chain environments.
• Strong communication skills and strategic thinking to collaborate across functions and drive technology adoption
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and programs, manage risks, and deliver results aligned with business objectives.
• Strong business acumen to develop and evaluate business cases, ensuring measurable return on investment.
• Experience in engineering design and continuous improvement to optimize operational efficiency.
• Transportation automation and engineering domain expertise
• Knowledge of advanced analytics and automation technologies to support innovation and operational excellence.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...
