What you'll do...
About the team The Secrets team is a specialized platform engineering group at Walmart focused on building, operating, and evolving enterprise-grade secrets management solutions. We design and manage Vault products that securely store and deliver sensitive information—such as passwords, API keys, and certificates—to applications and services across Walmart’s global technology landscape. Our team collaborates closely with security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure seamless integration, automation, and compliance, while driving innovation in how secrets are managed at scale. We are passionate about delivering secure, reliable, and developer-friendly solutions that empower teams to move faster and safer. What You’ll Do:- Understand business problems related to secrets management and propose robust, scalable technological solutions.
- Architect, design, build, and deploy enterprise-grade secrets management platforms (Vault, Akeyless, etc.) at scale, ensuring security, reliability, and compliance.
- Design, develop, and deploy highly available and scalable systems with a focus on cloud-native and Kubernetes-based solutions for secrets lifecycle automation (onboarding, policy management, auditing, monitoring).
- Develop and optimize platform components and automation tools using Golang, Kubernetes APIs, and other cloud-native technologies, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Architect and implement microservices-based solutions using service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles, with a focus on secure secret delivery and management.
- Deploy and manage secrets management solutions on Azure and other cloud platforms, leveraging Kubernetes and related technologies.
- Drive best practices in CI/CD, DevOps, and operational excellence for seamless deployments and system reliability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with security, platform, and application teams to define system architecture, integration strategies, and development roadmaps.
- Provide technical leadership, making design trade-offs to balance long-term scalability with short-term execution needs.
- Lead incident reviews, root cause analysis, and postmortems for critical platform issues, ensuring learnings are translated into long-term improvements.
- Mentor and guide engineers within the team, fostering technical growth and a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Stay current with industry trends in secrets management, cloud security, and Kubernetes, and proactively introduce new technologies and approaches where appropriate.
- 10+ years of experience in the design and development of highly scalable, secure platform solutions in product-based companies or R&D divisions.
- Strong computer systems fundamentals, data structures/algorithms, and problem-solving skills.
- Deep programming expertise in Golang (preferred), with additional experience in Java, Python, or similar languages a plus.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes internals, APIs, operator patterns, and cloud-native development.
- Experience architecting and building distributed systems, with a focus on security, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Hands-on experience with secrets management platforms (Vault, Akeyless, or equivalents) and a solid understanding of security best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, etc.), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Helm), and certificate lifecycle management (cert-manager, Venafi, etc.).
- Strong experience with SQL/NoSQL and database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cross-team initiatives, influence stakeholders, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a passion for mentoring and developing others.
- Experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.) and a strong commitment to operational excellence.
