What you'll do...

We are seeking a talented and passionate Group Director, Data Science- Pricing, you will lead a high-impact team responsible for driving pricing optimization across Walmart’s global retail platforms. You will develop and execute data science strategies for price point optimization and markdown strategies, ensuring Walmart delivers the right value to customers while maximizing business performance. About the Team Applied AI focuses on the development and deployment of innovative agentic AI and Machine Learning algorithms across all aspects of Walmart’s retail, grocery and logistics businesses.  The team of more than 300 AI scientists and engineers use advanced Applied AI, Agentic AI, and Mathematical Optimization to revolutionize how Walmart manages its retail, grocery and pharmaceutical operations. What you'll do:

• Lead and grow a team of data scientists and data engineers dedicated to pricing optimization.
• Define the vision and strategy for pricing optimization, including dynamic price points and markdown strategies, across both physical and digital channels.
• Partner with product, engineering, merchandising, and business stakeholders to identify pricing opportunities and align on strategic initiatives.
• Oversee the end-to-end data science lifecycle: problem scoping, literature review, model design, algorithmic optimization, engineering integration, deployment, monitoring, and impact measurement.
• Drive AI innovation in pricing, including experimentation with new models and algorithms to improve pricing accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensure robust model governance, reproducibility, and ethical AI practices.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and business impact effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
• Ensure best practices in data science, including model governance, reproducibility, and ethical AI.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences and executive leadership.
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in data science and AI.

What you'll bring:

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering Systems, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field preferred
• At least 10 years of experience in leading data science, machine learning, or analytics roles, 4 years in technical leadership and people management.
• Proven experience developing and deploying data science solutions for pricing optimization, price point decisions, and markdown strategies in a retail or e-commerce environment.
• Hands-on expertise in the full data science lifecycle, especially in pricing and revenue management.
• Experience with large-scale data platforms and cloud technologies (GCP, Azure, AWS), including data lake architecture.
• Strong programming skills (Python, R, or similar) and proficiency with data engineering and ML tools.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience in business development, roadmap ownership, and driving measurable impact through data science.
• Experience in retail pricing for large-scale enterprises preferred.
• Familiarity with advanced pricing models, demand forecasting, elasticity modeling, and real-time pricing algorithms preferred
• Experience managing cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
• Publications or patents in pricing optimization or related AI/ML fields preferred.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-30002: The annual salary range for this position is $195,000.00 - $370,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Option 3: 10 years' experience in an analytics or related field.
4 years' supervisory experience.
