Meet Our Associates
Every day offers something different, unexpected and incredible when you work for the world’s largest retailer. Read what our associates have to say about how they’re Making Better Possible by working at Walmart and Sam’s Club.
Happy to be at Walmart.com.Why did I join Walmart? It was definitely the opportunity to make a difference on an unparalleled scale and the chance to be a “social intrapreneur.” In my past, I have launched innovations at smaller organizations only to realize that there was little opportunity to further them. At Walmart.com and Walmart eCommerce, it feels as though there is an endless series of opportunities just waiting to be realized – and I love that feeling.
I love to identify opportunities and then develop a plan to realize them. Walmart has allowed me to do just that, combining my passion for social benefit with my hardwiring for business. Prior to joining Walmart, I knew the organization played an invaluable leadership role in global sustainability and inspired action throughout its supply chain and beyond. Since joining, I’ve been impressed to see how this has been achieved, and I am proud to have contributed by playing a key role in our electronics trade-in program, which helps put more money into the hands of our customers while diverting millions of pounds of e-waste from landfills.
Walmart.com combines the scale of the Fortune 100 with the feel and agility of a startup. Add to that a bright and humble associate base, our commitment to social commerce with @WalmartLabs, and the launch of Walmart eCommerce platforms across the globe, and you have an exciting and grounded place to work that is certain to affect the retail landscape as we know it. Every day, I am learning to manage people and initiatives by my intellect, intuition and values, and I am happier for it....more >>
Driven by Pride. By working for Walmart, I like to believe my fellow driver associates and I are dispelling a lot of the old impressions people may have about truck drivers. When people see Walmart trucks rolling down the road, they feel at ease. That’s because we as a company and employees put a tremendous amount of effort into making that so.
We go to great lengths to ensure that our rigs are neat, clean, and orderly (NCO). In fact, one of my fellow Road Team members once met a former President of the United States, and he told him that he and his wife always feel safe around Walmart trucks.
Being a Road Team member means having pride in our work, pride in our employer and pride in ourselves. Throughout our fleet, you'll find drivers spreading the message of safety in the communities. We visit with automobile drivers young and old, always advancing the mindset of cooperation instead of competition on our nation’s roadways....more >>
Walmart is my Life. When I think about it, it’s amazing how many aspects of my life are touched and made better by Walmart. I live less than a mile away from my job. I can even see the building where I work looking out my window every day. My husband works here too. The main reason, he says, is because he saw how much I enjoyed my job, and working for Walmart he couldn’t wait to get here too.
Walmart has also greatly enriched my kids’ lives. Over the years, all three have worked for Walmart at one time or another, and they have received scholarships simply because their parents work for Walmart.
I have experienced so many wonderful things working here and look forward to many more in the future. I have always regretted not getting a college education, and now, with Walmart’s Life-Long Learning program, I’m on my way to receiving one. Walmart is giving me college credit for all the training that I have done, doing my job over the years, and earning a living for my family.

All in the Family. My first experience with Walmart came from my grandmother who was a fitting room associate. It was 1992 and I was starting college, and she suggested that Walmart would be a great place for me to work while earning my degree. So that’s how I got my start – as a Walmart cashier.
Even back then, the company seemed big and overwhelming, but the associates in my store made it feel small, just like a family. Leadership took me under their wings and guided me in my career. They helped me to make connections and build the relationships that would eventually turn into my lifeline of mentors and friends. To this day, I continue to grow and learn, and the Walmart family is always there for me every step of the way.
The Walmart I know is one where associates rally together and make things happen for one another and for their local community. It gives me great pleasure to bring my children to our events and show them that Walmart doesn’t just say that it gives back, it actually does it. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about – people helping people.

A completely fulfilling career. Having served as a pharmacist, assistant pharmacy manager, pharmacy manager, and interim market director, I have had a very fulfilling career at Walmart. Coming out of school, several companies offered me pharmacy opportunities, but I chose Walmart because of its exceptional reputation for customer service, the company’s stability, and its countless opportunities for career advancement.
One aspect that I may not have considered, but have since found and thoroughly enjoyed, is the family-like environment here at Walmart. I’ve encountered extraordinary coworkers and customers and made lifelong friends that I always look forward to visiting with. I’ve gotten to know entire families, and seen them grow, graduate, marry, and reach major milestones in life right before my eyes. I consider my role as a Walmart pharmacist as so much more than a healthcare provider. I see myself as a loving sister, friend, daughter, and even granddaughter. It means so much to hear, “I’ve missed seeing you in the store,” or, “Thank you for listening to me today.”
I’ve also been able to be active in the community. With Walmart’s support, I orchestrated and promoted a Diabetes Awareness event statewide helping to diagnose the undiagnosed and help those already diagnosed. This event was later incorporated into the State Department of Health, where it now targets those counties with the highest rates of diagnosed diabetes cases. I am very grateful and proud that my career has afforded me an opportunity to step out of the box and organize an event with such far-reaching healthcare implications.

Expanding my universe. Personally, I’ve always liked taking on new challenges. That is why I enjoy working for Walmart. Recently, I was given the opportunity to transfer to the Operations Department of Walmart.com to help set up a team in our China office. So now I am helping to provide an eCommerce solution for the number one retailer in the world in the most populous country in the world. That kind of opportunity doesn’t happen very often!
In my previous role, I focused purely on the engineering side of the work. Now, with this new role, I am able to see the entire “end to end” of an eCommerce business from merchandising, to supply chain, to customer service. I used to see Engineering as the center of the universe. This new experience, however, has made me realize that the center of the universe is really the customers. All the work we do in every different department is to make sure we provide the best service we can to our customers.
Working for Walmart has allowed me to make a real difference in people’s lives. Take my work on the “Online Pharmacy,” for example. When this was complete, people could now get the right medication faster and for less money. That is real impact for real people.

Exactly where I want to be. I had worked in retail throughout high school and college, but never imagined I would make it my lifelong career. Yet here it is 18 years later, and I feel I have the best job in the world. Today at Walmart, I’m serving the 100,000 associates in the Midwest division and representing the brand every day.
I love that we are taking care of customers, and feel that many other retailers don’t value that as much as Walmart. We never settle for second best. When you have the opportunity to lead, you don’t ever want to exchange that for something less. We are big, but we still have that innovative spirit and the desire to be competitive with ourselves.
Thanks to Walmart, I have been able to purchase a home, have a family, grow a career, travel, support an international business, and start and finish my Master’s degree. I have also been able to volunteer for things that are important to me and contribute to the community. My three children are so proud that I work for Walmart. My youngest shouts “Mommy’s Walmart” every time she sees the spark. And my son said the other day that we needed to go to Walmart to buy everything so that we could “save money and live better” – in other words, have money left over to add to his Pokémon card collection.

It's truely what you make it. What I like most about Walmart is the unlimited career opportunities. This company allows you to be and do just about anything. You can be in Merchandising and then move to Human Resources or another area. If you want to try something new, you don’t have to leave because there are so many opportunities throughout the organization. This is why we have so many associates who have been here for 20 years or more.
I started in August 1998 as an hourly associate, and then I moved into Human Resources & Recruiting as an Assistant. After a year, I was promoted to a management position as a Recruiter. This was surreal to me! Here I was starting as an hourly associate, and then I was a manager, and now I’m a Senior Manager. What other company would allow you such an opportunity? At Walmart, what you put in is what you get out.
My quality of life is like nothing I ever expected. Walmart took a chance on me, and I am thankful for that each day. Working for such a performance-based company has motivated me to deliver my very best. I am proof that you can be whatever you want to be as long as you are committed and work for it. I came in for a job, and I now have a career....more >>
In and out of the driver's seat. I enjoy working for Walmart because I have a career, not just a job. I’m not just a truck driver stuck in the driver’s seat all the time. I can get out of the truck and have a positive impact on my fellow drivers, my community and the industry. Walmart allows me to branch out and enhance my driving career through initiatives like the Store Ambassador Program, the Trucker Buddy Program, and being a Road Team Captain.
In the Store Ambassador Program, I act as a liaison between the store, warehouse, and drivers to resolve issues and make the workplace more enjoyable and productive for everyone involved. In the Trucker Buddy Program, I’m affiliated with an elementary school class in my community. Every week, I send them a picture postcard of my travels, and tell them where I went and what I hauled. Then, once a month, I send them a one-page letter detailing what I did for the month, and let them know about any special events I attended.
As a Walmart Road Team Captain, I’m part of seven-member team that represents the over seven thousand Walmart Drivers nationwide. It’s our job to help promote and advance the positive image of Walmart Transportation. We have a lot of varied responsibilities such as supporting and training Walmart drivers for Truck Driving competitions on the state and national level, helping to recruit new drivers to Walmart, and participating, speaking, and representing Walmart at various events.
Very few companies have opportunities like this. Being involved in so many different areas allows me to help our culture, mission, and vision, and stay excited about my career, work environment and the company I work for.

Pride and passion. I joined Walmart in an entry-level management position two weeks after graduating from college. I have since been given many opportunities to have increasing responsibilities in more than eight different areas within Human Resources and in Sam’s Club, Walmart US and Walmart International. I feel people in other organizations would have had to change companies several times in order to enjoy the number of career experiences that have been provided to me at Walmart.
What I like most about Walmart is that you can personally engage in things that you are passionate about and that make a difference in the lives of our associates and customers. For me, this means playing a part in the advancement of women throughout the organization. Working in our International Division, I have had the opportunity to help design and implement Women’s Leadership Councils in each market. The objective of each Council is to create a venue for women to engage in dialogue with Walmart leadership to enhance the development and retention of women locally.
Years ago, as a college senior, I knew that Walmart had a reputation for offering great opportunities for people just starting their career, as well as opportunities to grow a career within the Company. And here it is 19 years later and I can say this still remains true today. I am grateful for every opportunity that I have had working for an organization that respects the individual, services the customer and continually strives for excellence. At Walmart, we are all held accountable as associates and leaders to live these values every day, thereby paving the way for the next generation of Walmart associates to succeed and achieve even more....more >>
