Global Sourcing
Walmart Global Sourcing is committed to developing local talent to facilitate the direct purchasing of merchandise for all Walmart retail operations. But we do much more than that. We work with all Walmart business units across the globe to source affordable merchandise and raw materials for our customers, improve economies, lift up communities, maintain and improve product quality, and ensure that the products we import into our retail markets are sourced responsibly. We work with individual farmers and providers to meet local needs with products close to home. We partner with our Global eCommerce division to achieve our ongoing sustainability initiatives. And our Ethical Sourcing team team works hard to ensure that our suppliers’ direct import factories have the highest ratings for environmental and labor practices.
Whether you’re in our Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas, or at a sourcing hub in China, you’re part of a team that’s helping people on a large scale.
For example:
- We’re supporting local agriculture by launching local programs in several countries that reduce dependency on imported produce, create jobs and economic growth, and provide our customers with fresher food at an affordable price.
- We’ve launched a major initiative in our U.S. division to make healthier foods more affordable for all American families through a focus on pricing, clearer nutrition labeling, product reformulation and more.
- We’ve launched a women’s empowerment initiative to develop 60,000 women working in our suppliers’ factories and farms into more active decision-makers in their jobs and for their families. We’ve also committed to sourcing $20 billion from women-owned businesses globally over the next five years.
- Our Ethical Sourcing team is working to improve working, environmental and living conditions for factory workers.
